HUDSON RIVER PARK TRUST OPENS
TRIBECA UPLANDS SECTION
July 23, 2008
The Tribeca Uplands section of Hudson River Park opened to the public at a ribbon-cutting attended by both elected officials and community representatives. The 4.6-acre section just south of Pier 40 to Laight Street includes recreational facilities, horticultural walkways and art.
The Tribeca Uplands has a basketball court, tennis courts, raised overlooks facing the water, sculpted public art, and landscaped gardens. The gardens consist of more than 29 thousand individual plants, trees, shrubs and grasses, and include a meandering, wooden boardwalk that allows park guests to stroll through uneven terrain in a tranquil setting. Look for the green and blue tiling adding another dimension to the paving. The Tribeca segment was designed by landscape architects Sasaki Associates and Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.
